
While researching for this article one question kept coming up over and over..."Why would anyone ever want to own a Box Turtle as a PET"? "Just what do you do with a Box Turtle anyway?" Would the answer be "Raise them to race with hares!" "Are they an alternative to watching grass grow...or paint dry?"
Even after the research was finished, the questions still remained..."Why would you want a Box Turtle?"
Well, that surely reinforces the advice that all serious pet owners and breeders give--don't buy a pet until you really understand what that pet is all about. The people who own and breed Box Turtles send this message loud and clear. A Box Turtle is a living creature, that in captivity, totally depends on its owners for its survival. So, don't go out and buy one on a whim, or to please or quiet your child. That would be cruel to both the Turtle and the child.
