The Maine Coon Cat

First Litter from Cancoon Cattery

The Maine Coon Cat probably originated on sailing ships that traded the U.S. northeastern coastline. Once ashore they evolved to endure the harsh weather conditions in their new homeland. The Maine Coon Cat is large with bog bones, and is a great hunter. Daily grooming due to its heavy and shaggy coat; will shed. The coat, however, is silky and resists tangling. Tail is somewhat reminiscent to a raccoon. Lynx-like face with large, pointed ears, large round eyes, and square muzzle.
