The Soft Coated Wheaten TerrierTerrier Group
![]() ![]() Soft Coated Wheatens from Cole's Kennel
The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a puppy for life. They have the terrier instincts and need to be trained and handled in a firm and consistent manner. The Wheaten is a loyal family dog that gets along well with children and other pets (be careful around cats until accepted!). Sudden movements result in instinctual behavior. Be careful with male to male dog meetings. Socialization as a puppy goes a long way in defining a good attitude for the Wheaten. A good watch dog. The Wheaten is OK for apartments but needs a moderate exercise routine. It does not like heat extremes. Work the coat with a comb instead of a brush. Read PGAA's Hypoallergenic Dogs article.

Book Suggestions
We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet stores and Internet sellers may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.
If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA ( ita408@comcast.net), and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for. Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site. Do your own check of each breeder or rescue -- be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog. | |||||||||||||||||||
