The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is one of the largest of all breeds at over 130 pounds. So, while it is an excellent family dog just remember how big that little ball of fur is going to get. He is a total family dog wanting to be in on the action. Great with children but, again, remember his size. GSMD's will take their cue from their owner and quickly accept outsiders welcomed by the family. They love the chase and if you're on the other end of the leash, be ready! It would be much better to include "No Chase" in its training routine. Really a hugable, loveable bear. Like most dogs of this size they prefer a cool climate. They can live in apartments if they are frequently exercised. Again, beware of their size. Should be brushed at least on a weekly basis.
