All photos were taken by Close Encounters of the Furry Kind The Sussex Spaniel as a rare breed of spaniel with about 400 registered in the United States. They love and bond to their owners, and are great family pets. If socialized early the Sussex should have no trouble accepting other pets, including cats. The Sussex can be a barker and howler. It will need firm and consistent training and handling. While it can become an apartment dog it needs consistent exercise, and may be better off if there is a fenced yard available. It is good with children but may not be as playful as other spaniels. Their beautiful golden liver color coat should be brushed at least weekly.

We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet stores and Internet sellers may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.
If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA ( ita408@comcast.net), and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for. Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site. Do your own check of each breeder or rescue -- be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
