The Shiba Inu is a fiery little dog from Japan that is cute and cuddly in appearance and brave and fearless in spirit. They need early socialization and firm training and handling. Dog aggression is a part of their heritage, especially between the same sex. They may not tolerate other non-canine/feline pets. They are easily housebroken, and keep themselves clean. Children socialized with a puppy Shiba should bond nicely. It loves to exercise and walk and tolerates temperature extremes. The Shiba can be an apartment dog if regularly exercised. Younger Shibas may be a little exuberant in the house, so a family outing to an enclosed backyard may be in order. Brush weekly and bathe infrequently.
