If you love the water, are allergic to dogs, but want a dog to join you, look at the Portugese Water Dog. A medium-sized dog who can live in an apartment as long as it gets its daily walk/jog (not stroll). This dog needs to be challenged both physically and mentally. Fairly easy to train, and great with children and household pets (it may find your cat a curiosity until they can socialize with one another). Its temperament is steady and it just wants to be a part of your living experience. Very intelligent, and it will entertain you with its antics. Sheds little and needs to be brushed on a regular basis. Read PGAA's Hypoallergenic Dogs article.
