The Portuguese Pointer is one of the most loyal dogs you could own. They are very good with children and other pets, and love the time they spend with their family. It is a very affectionate breed where the affection may at times by inconvenient. They have a thick coat that beads up when wet and sheds very little hair. While they are a hunting dog they rarely hunt on their own but would rather accompany their owner. The breed loves the outdoors but is also comfortable in the house. Easily trained, they enjoy and need physical and mental exercise and can do well in agility. It is probably best suited for a rural environment.
