Nutritious Food For Your Pet

The National Research Council or NRC has framed guidelines for the nutritional requirements for dogs and manufacturers have to follow the minimum quantity of proteins, fats, carbohydrates minerals and vitamins required for your dog breed. Food items containing all these nutritive values are meat and meat products, vegetable wheat middlings, corn, brewer's yeast, poultry, oats, barley, rice, animal fats, bone meal, fish meal, cereals and soybean meal.

Manufacturers also need to keep in mind the taste of the food so that dogs would want to eat the food served to them. Most often pet food manufacturers add garlic, onion powder, tomato puree, salt, bacon and other ingredients to make the food not only look good but tasty as well. For consumer benefit, the product is usually packed in weights ranging from one to 50 pounds in twelve to sixteen ounce cans, and in cellophane packs for comfortable serving.

The manufacturers' first aim is to draw the attentions of pet owners through attractive packing with nutrition details clearly mentioned on the labels of the cans or boxes. You can get these packs from websites or directly from stores. The dog is only interested in the smell and the look of the food. It is the dog owner whom the manufacturers target with smart and attractive packaging. Pet food manufacturers take the best advertising strategy to market their product to the customers. They advertise their product in such a fashion that they look like choice steaks, fresh ground hamburger, chunks of lean beef, even breakfast cereals.

Though there are varied food styles, the dog food comes only in three types:

· Complete food: Complete food is available in a single container which includes carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins and minerals that a dog requires.

· Supplementary food: These food items are mixed with complete food to enhance taste and increase the appetite of the dog.

· Little treats: Snacks like beef jerky and cereal biscuits can be given to train them as a reward or for just for spoiling them with love.

The diet of a dog should have complete food and not only supplementary food as it would deprive the dog of the prescribed nutrients.
