The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a gentle and affectionate dog that is great with children. Bred for tolling (luring) the Toller is a hunting dog used to lure and retrieve ducks. They enjoy being a part of the family and are not meant to be a "kenneled" dog. Early socialization and training is important, and you should make sure the dog knows who's the leader of the pack. Similar in appearance and attitude to a Golden Retriever, the Toller is the smallest of the retriever breeds. Really a nice and loving dog. They need to be exercised daily and mentally challenged.
