The Belgian Malinois
Oslo and puppies from Belgian Malinois Des Ombres Valeureux
The Belgian Malinois is a herding dog that can be used for security work. Early training, socialization and consistent/knowledgable handling is important to have a pet that the family will enjoy as much as the dog enjoys being a part of the family. Good with children but may be "too much" for a young child. While it loves to outdoors it should not become a "kennel" dog. It needs to be with the family in order for it to remain a family pet. They may tend to bond more with certain family members than with others. Good watchdogs that need exercise and activity. Do not make the dog find its own amusements. Will try to be the dominant dog, but gets along with non-canine pets if socialized during puppyhood. They can be apartment dogs if fully exercised, but they will be active vs. inactive inside the home. Minimal brushing is needed. (Also see Belgian Sheepdog and Belgian Tervuren.)

We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet store puppies may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.
If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA ( firstname.lastname@example.org), and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for. Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site. Do your own check of each breeder or rescue -- be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog.
