The Standard Schnauzer is a very protective dog that needs to be socialized very early. A strong and consistent handling and training program is also necessary to keep the Schnauzer from becoming too protective. This is a high energy dog that needs a high energy owner. Someone who will be a consistent companion willing to play as hard as the dog wants to play. They are good for apartments as long as they get plenty of exercise. They will also be quite active inside the house. The Schnauzer should be brushed daily. Also see Giant Schnauzer and Miniature Schnauzer.
