The KuvaszWorking Breed
![]() Trouble and puppy Sabastian rescued through the Kuvasz Fanciers of America
The Kuvasz is a large, fearless dog dedicated to protecting its herd (or family), and needs a strong, consistent owner with early training and socialization. A Kuvasz pup raised with the family's children will be much better with those children, but still may present a risk to unknown children. All family members need to know how to handle this dog. The Kuvasz is bred to work independent of man, and may not listen to the untrained handler. This is a working dog and rightfully belongs in a working environment. They need a great deal of exercise and are not suited for apartment life. A large, fenced yard is best for a pet Kuvasz, and tied dogs can get nasty. A large doggie door would provide the pet Kuvasz with a choice of environments. The coat of the Kuvasz should be regularly brushed.

Book Suggestions
We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet store puppies may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.
If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA ( ita408@comcast.net), and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for. Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site. Do your own check of each breeder or rescue -- be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
