Irish Red and White Setter

Sporting Group

The Irish Red and White Setters in an energetic, intelligent, affectionate, and high-spirited breed. They are excellent with children and get along well with other pets. It can be giddy and high strung or, reserved. Because of an independent spirit it needs to be trained at an early age. It tends to pick up bad habits quickly so it is important to also train for good house manners. The Irish Red and White Setter is a hunter. These dogs are said to be easily housebroken. A daily long, brisk walk is needed or they will become restless and hard to manage. But, they also enjoy running free in a fenced yard. The breed does much better in a rural vs. urban setting. This breed is an average shedder. The Irish Red and White Setter is easily trainable and is a good Agility competitor.

We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet store puppies may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner. Please visit NoPuppyMills.com

If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA ( ita408@comcast.net), and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for. Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site. Do your own check of each breeder or rescue -- be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog.
