HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE...?Important questions to ask…pre-pooch.
Do great looks or personality impulsively influence you? Are you ready for a significant other? Are you prepared for a "give and take" relationship? Are you willing to sacrifice your personal time to provide for the happiness and well being of another? Can you commit to sharing the good times and the bad? If you answered NO to the first, and YES to the last four, you may be really ready for a DOG. We know that these questions may be more familiar to you when talking about human relationships, but they apply equally to the relationship you intend to establish between yourself and a DOG. After all, your pup can quickly become a "significant other", and you'll definitely have a relationship!

DOGS are creatures of our world, and if we expect their love and devotion, we should be prepared to offer care, nurturing, respect and consideration. What you receive from any DOG will far exceed what you give. A DOG won't care if your hair's a mess, or if you've gained a few pounds, or if your taste in clothes says you're not sheik. A DOG will give you companionship just when you need it most. They won't ask any favors in return. A DOG will just love you. But our advice is to WAIT until you are sure you are ready for this relationship. When you're ready to let a DOG into your life, you will discover exactly what the word "irreplaceable" means. While PGAA firmly believes in DOGS and PEOPLE, we will always advise caution. Just as in any other relationship, you need to know what you're "in for". Fortunately, there are many ways to determine whether or not you and a DOG are destined for each other. Here's our CAUTION… when a human relationship dissolves, the people involved usually regain a happy life. Most DOGS taken out of a relationship have a much grimmer outlook. If you don't believe us, visit your local Animal Shelter. See the DOGS there, and notice the big box in the corner. Each year, over 2 million DOGS are "put to sleep" because OWNERS didn't think about "owning" a DOG, before they "owned" one. The National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy is an organization that collects and studies information concerning pet populations. Their list of the ten most popular reasons for relinquishing pets to shelters can be seen by clicking here. Review this list BEFORE you get a dog. If there is the potential that one of these reasons may affect you - DON'T GET A DOG! Visit the Council's web site - it's very interesting.
