The Dogue de Bordeaux is a large breed and sometimes known as a French Mastiff. Its a calm dog with a good temperment, loyal to its family. It can be confrontational to strangers and aggressive to other dogs and should be socialized while a puppy. It snores and it drools. Males of this breed to not do well with other males of the breed. They make good family members and are gentle with children -- just take in consideration their size as accidents can happen with smaller children. The Dogue de Bordeaux is a powerful animal both in appearance and ability. It is not a breed for new, inexperienced owners. An average shedder. Lots of exercise is needed. Beasley in Turner and Hooch was a Dogue de Bordeaux. The weights shown below start with the female low end and the male upper end. Many females will weight over 100 pounds while many males may top 140. Make sure that you fully understand how big this breed can become.
